I am happy to undertake any research according to your specific requirements at £20 per hour. For new projects, I would recommend a basic research package tracing a single surname (UK-based) back to the early 19th century costing £150 which would typically include:

4 hours of research time and a further 1-2 hours to transribe and collate the information to produce a family tree with all supporting documents @ £20/hour

a printout of your family tree

a CD-ROM containing electronic copies of all supporting documents and a GEDCOM file (the international standard format for genealogical data) of your family tree, should you wish to continue research at a later date, or print copies of the research findings to give to family members

a GEDCOM file of your family tree uploaded to ancestry.co.uk, where you and family members nominated by you may view the family tree.

I may find it necessary to order around 3 birth, marriage or death certificates at £7 each (provided at cost) in order to prove or disprove a possible relationship or event. This is a highly cost-effective method of determining facts. Please note that the amount of information I can unearth depends on what I have to work with in the first place, such as birth dates, birth places and full (and maiden) names of parents and grandparents. If this information is sketchy, events took place overseas or if children are born to unmarried parents then it is possible that little or no information can be obtained in a short time period. I will warn you of this possibility at the outset and it is up to you if you wish to continue on this basis.

If, based on my findings and recommendations, you then wish to continue with the project, either immediately or at a later date, I would undertake to continue the research within a budget determined by you.

Please note that family tree research can take time. The minimum amount of research time I can agree to is 4 hours, whether with a new or previous customer.
